Demon Bugs

Dear God,

I have a question: When you say that our battle is not against flesh and blood, are you including insects in that category? Specifically Lice? Because I really feel like my battle is against lice right now, and I think it’s pretty safe to say that lice are the devil. So . . . ??? A little help ??? –Julie

No, we’re not extremely wasteful, those bags are full of our delicate bedding/pillows/stuffed animals/clothing that can not be washed and dried in scalding heat. I am currently working my way through my second round of washing everything in the house b/c after 3 days and a hesitant “I think we got them … ????” I found another little demon bug this morning.

This battle takes me right back to camp again, as I spent most of a summer picking nits out of the hair of campers and staff alike . . . worst summer ever, but I managed to stay louse-free somehow, and for the rest of my adult life I have lived happily without critters in my head. Well that bragging right is gone now. *Sigh* This is not how I planned to spend our 3 day weekend!

Please, please don’t share your stories. I’m already ruined. I’ll be back when I figure out what God is trying to teach me through this . . .

Monkeys are known to pick out lice and other kinds of dirt or debris from one another. There are possibly two reasons for this:
    1) For general hygiene – “You dirty thing! Come here, I’ll clean you.”
    2) Social behavior – “I groom you, you groom me! Let’s be friends.”

Although we are not monkeys, but as human, we are also creatures of this Earth who are subject to its environment – both good and bad.

You mention how: “This battle takes me right back to camp again, as I spent most of a summer picking nits out of the hair of campers and staff alike.”

In spite of it being the worst summer ever for you, God used your hands to bless and relieve the heads as well as the minds of the campers and staff around you. You were able to help others and at that time still remain lice free! Through your grooming of the campers and staff alike, you engaged in social behavior that demonstrated your friendship and care for the general hygiene of others. You restored the comfort of people and created a longstanding memory of your good deed. Isn’t that a beautiful thing? How a horrible situation such as contracting lice can bring people together?

In this 3 day weekend, you were able to experience what it actually felt like to be those campers. You were able to live through the itchiness and awful feeling they experienced but at the same time (and most importantly) you were reminded of how you once helped relieve people of these “demon bugs.”

If you managed it once, you will do it again.

Perhaps this circumstance has happened so that you can come to realize exactly what you have already realized here – that you have helped many lives in the past and present. Perhaps God wants to remind you of how strong you are, how amazing you are, and how you have the power not only to help yourself in times of difficulty but also to help others. Go you!
